As the Web moves toward HTTPS by default, Chrome will remove "secure" indicator
Google is anticipating a world where HTTPS is the default. In this world, only the occasional unsafe site should have its URL highlighted, not the boring and humdrum secure site.

I understand the intent, but this seems like a step backwards. Not all browsers will have the same behavior (especially older browsers that can’t be updated), so there’s definitely a potential for users to be confused about how secure or insecure a site is.
